The Seek God Challenge Day 1

SEEK HIM PERSONALLY, SEEK HIM CONTINUALLY

READ

“1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father; and he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet a boy, he began to seek the God of David his father,” -2 Chronicles 34:1-3a

THINK

Matt mentioned Josiah sought God both personally, and continually. What does seeking God look like in your life today? How should/could that be different?
Verse two tells us that Josiah “did what was right in the eyes of the Lord” and he “did not turn aside to the right hand or the left”. Why do you think that was?
Verse three actually answers our last question; “For in the eighth year of his reign…he began to seek…God” How do you think that seeking God caused him to do “what was right” and “not turn aside”?
Look for a second at John 5:19
“19 So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.” - John 5:19
We know that Jesus was fully man and yet was without sin, and I believe that he gives us the secret right here in John 5:19. Do you see it? What is it?
He was in constant communication with His Father. He didn’t choose any decision on His own. He didn’t take any job, trip, or activity without the Father’s direction. Like a life GPS it gave Jesus the exact, perfect will of God the Father. For us pressing into God is the only way to learn to hear the Father in every situation. If you have surrendered your life to Christ then He’s already equipped you to be victorious you just have to learn when and how to use what. How is your life GPS operating? When was the last time you turned it on and listened?

PRAY

These thoughts and prayers are just a guide to get you started in your conversation with God. Think of them as conversation starters rather than a check list to quickly pray.
The kind of passionate seeking God that changes your generation is hard, persistent, and it will bring about hardship. There will no doubt come some sort of distraction that will attempt to edge out your time seeking God over the next month, it’s the things that we place the most value on that we use our time doing.
Pray that you will have the discipline to stick with it for the whole 30 days.

As you seek God you will be drawn deeper into Him, and with that comes a greater love of His character and his love for you. In light of that we’ll quickly see sin in our lives and the decisions that put us there. Holiness is not easy. Opposition from the enemy is promised, as is persecution from the world. It’s here that we decide if it’s worth it.

Pray that you will release the boldness God has given you to be a city on a hill that cannot be hidden.

DO

Stop right now and plan a time each day that you’re going to protect each day to seek God for the next 30 days.

2012’s bringing big new delves

Okay, for the month of January I am taking a hyades to work on asJulesisgoing.2012, 2012

Hoping to have a refreshed professional look ready for February! I'll be using January to get my home running in order, as well as learning to become more disciplined as a blogger, how to monetize on my site {msg if interested ;o)} and work on several series for this site that I have cramped up in my head. I also have a 1st birthday, 2nd birthday, doctors appointments, a Disciple Now, and I'm sure other things to fill my calendar.

In short. I'll be using January to prepare for 2012. I know most people start the year {January} ready to rock. I just can't seem to get it all together amidst the 3 months of holidays, unscheduled travel, and my scattered-ness {not a word}...how do people do it? Anyways. I pray it's a relaxing and productive month ;o)

Don't fret though. I have an AWEmazing guest blogger for the month! Matt Rothacher {the hubs!} of MattRothacher.com will be posting daily {more regular than me}!

INTRODUCING:

The Seeking God Challenge

Join us for a month of Seeking God. With just fifteen minutes a day "The Seek God Challenge" will challenge you to go deeper in your walk with Christ and hopefully establish a pattern of seeking Him that will last beyond this. This is a month long challenge and comes complete with Daily video Devotionals from Matt, as well as a passage of Bible reading with questions to think through concerning that passage, prayer guides and an challenge to put all this into practice. Start today and begin your pursuit of a holy God.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

It's simple, each day for 31 days you stop by here and click the Day # you're on, watch the video, read the Word, think about the text by answering the questions, pray concerning the passage and then do the simple challenge for the day.

Advent {Day 11}: Relentless Christmas Party

Did I mention our month of December is PACKED with Parte's!?!?!

Some times it may be overwhelming preparing for each one, remembering what I'm supposed to take, when we're supposed to be, and where it's hosted {1/2 are @ my house...that would be BAD if I forgot}. We are having lots of fun so far though. My kids LOVE going! Izzie wakes up every morning asking to put on her shoes and "ja-ket!" and Mags keeps asking if today is "Jesus' birthday!?" I have to remind her we are still in the fun, preparing part of December in anticipation for His big day!

In anticipation we've baked TONS, made lots of homemade gifts, gone shopping for a needy family, prepared Operation Christmas Child boxes, bought our personal family gifts in their honor, attended a deacon/staff Christmas dinner, shopped for Angel Tree children, and hosted our 1st outrageously fun party!

Just to give you a peek into our party, I'd like to teach you how-to play "Dirty Santa"!

PREP:

  1. Ask everyone attending your party to bring a generic gift ~$10.00 {if hosting, have a spare just in case someone forgets}
  2. When guest arrive, place all gifts in one place {on a table or under the Christmas tree}
  3. After everyone has arrive, munched on some goodies you are ready to play!
  4. Have everyone sit together in a circle {or simi-circle}
  5. Have numbers {according to the number of gifts/guests} in a hat to draw
  6. Everyone draws a number

RULES:

  1. Start the game with the person who drew #1, they chose a gift to open
  2. #2 get the choice to steal #1's gift or pick new gift to open
  3. Each person after that can steal a previously opened gift or may open a new gift
  4. If a person's gift is 'stolen' they may not steal directly back but may steal someone elses or chose a new one to open
  5. once a gifts been stolen 3x it's frozen
  6. once all the gifts have been open #1 has the last chance to steal
  7. ANY QUESTIONS?
  8. Let the merriment of stealing begin ;o)

Helpful Suggestions for selecting THE gift that wants to be stolen by all:

  1. Gift Card {Sonic Happy Hour makes $10 go a LONG way!}
  2. Toy
  3. Silly Info-mercial item

What take on "Dirty Santa, Yankee Swap, Chinese Gift Exchange, Thieving Secret Santa, Parcel Pass, Christmas Swamp Thing, or Pollyanna" do you and yours have? PLEASE SHARE!

Advent {Day 9}: Sugar Cookies (Gift Ideas Series)

Today I want to focus on Teachers! School teachers, Sunday school teachers, nursery workers, daycare workers, AWANA teachers, dance teachers, coaches, etc.

SPOILER ALERT! Teacher's every where are just as ready as your children, if not more so, for Christmas break! Yep. It's true. They have worked so hard teaching out little ones and they are looking forward to a tiny break. I appreciate all that they do every week. They are reliable. And they aiding me by assisting in my education of my child. A great way to thank them for all their hard work is with a meaningful gift!
