I know we don't have TV but we do enjoy a movie here and there. Especially when it's $1.oo {and some change}. That stretches out Dave Entertainment budget pretty far!

Here is a list of some that Matt and I have watched fairly recently out of the Red Box.

These are not necessarily recommend but here's our review for what it's worth. Keep in mind that we don't do rated R movies and try to avoid PG13 recently.

Of course it still has "worldly" views and lifestyles but over all good. LOTS of big names.

A little cheesy to begin with but we really got into it toward the end. LOVE the ending.

Adam Sandler often walks the line of inappropriate. There are lots of funnies in this one but of course lots of the "adult humor" and inu-windows you come to expect with Mr Sandlwer.

This again is a "worldly" look at what makes a women feel accomplished but the ending in this one I think we could all take away something.

Like the idea of this man "bettering himself" and who can resist Julia and Tom in a movie Together?!?

When this one started I wasn't sure if we would finish it. I'm really glad we did. I love movies that have conections throughout and this has an ending we can glean from.

To quote Matt, "Angry secular girl, sob fest." We thought this one was going to be funnier than it was. This was listed under Comedy and Drama. I chose it from the "Comedy" section. I'm not sure why it was catagorized as that other than haveing Kate's name in the credits. I don't regret having seen it but I'm not one who chooses a movie to cry through.

To be honest, I don't remember anything about this movie. I slept through it the 1st time we rented it and then I borrowed it from the library for my hubs forgetting we'd "seen" it. He watched it again while I slept again, so it must be a good man movie.

This one was funny. I loved hearing Hiegl's accent. It was a cute movie.

Drama! Again, have to be honest. We rented this one bc we had a free coupon code and we'd seen everyting else. It ended up being really good but definately NOT a comedy and Hanks is not really a lead in the movie.

Two movies we enjoyed and would watch with our kids are:

This was over all cute. I mean who wouldn't want to buy a Zoo?!?

I think this one would be better for older children just so it would be easier to follow.

Movies we LOVED and HIGHLY Recommend:

I think EVERYONE should see this one!

Saw this on Valentine's Day. Usually we don't like movies with our a cute, neat, and tighty bow at the end that wraps up all loose ends. Even though this one's bow didn't wrap everything up I loved it.

Saw this one on a date night. Not your typical CHEESY Christian film. GREAT movie!

We Red Boxed The Help but saw The Vow and Courageous in the theater {RARE for us} and they were both more than worth it!

Ones I'm awaiting in the Red Box:

My parents already bought this one so we've seen it and and it was cute.

Heard it was good.

Looks like a fun one for "Cartoon Saturdays."

not an affiliate just a fan

Remember, just because it's a Dollar
doesn't mean it's "worth it"!

Do you have any recommends?

Jules is an Amazima Mamma

During my family transformation from youth pastors to church planters, Katie Davis and her book Kisses from Katie played a large part.

As God was moving in Matt's life, this was one of the MANY books he read. As he read it at night and told me about specific stories in the book that were extra meaningful to him I just Knew God was moving us over seas! You see, I "surrendered to foreign missions" almost a year before I met Matt. I told him this when we stared dating but explained I wasn't sure what that would look like in my life. I just knew that I wanted to surrender to any possible thing God would ask me to do. I thought this story of a single girl making such an impact was going to be the catalyst to shoot my family overseas.{ Little did I knew we would be going on a similar adventure right here in the States in this current season of life.}

God did use Katie's story to soften my husband heart in the realm of overseas ministry and in giving! Matt gave up Diet Coke over a year ago! For those of you who don't know my husband, That Is HUGE! He's an addict! {I'll have to ask him to do a guest post about his addiction and God being his enabler} With some of the money we saved, he chose to sponsor an Amazima child! Longoli Moses has become a fairly regular friend to pray for, especially at meal times when we talk about why we sponsor Longoli. My oldest likes to remember to pray for Longoli's younger brother and that he will become a pilot when he grows up.

Another way we've tried to teach our children about why we are loving on Longoli this way is by teaching what we are able to bless Longoli with: a meal! The meal we're provide is very basic and reminds us how beyond blessed we are here. Every once in a while we choose to "eat like Longoli" with a meal of rice and beans.

Here's an update video from Katie's blog:

Won't you consider becoming an Amazima Mamma {or daddy}!?!

Playing Grocery Store

Quote Source

I. Am. Terrible. at playing with my kids!

There...I said it. I am a stay-at-home-mom. I am better {ahem...not good} at being the stay-at-home-wife who cooks and cleans and attempts to manage the house. I used to be okay at being a play-at-home-mom when it was just me and Mags. I could finish all my cleaning while she napped and then do cooking with ease. Two more babies later. I use nap time for sit-on-my-booty time and cook and clean sporadically and ask entirely too much of my poor hubby! I'm supposed to be his help-meet, not him chasing me around putting out fires and picking up my slack. Anybody else have this problem? Uggg Mom guilt much today? That's a entirely different post in itself.

Anyways, besides from my well stocked Pinterest board of my kids, I actually been trying to really be present with my kids. Introducing them to simple pretend games I played when I was kids or even doing some of those fun things I've pinned.

The other day, Maggie {4} came in to the room and told me she was going to go to the grocery store and that she would see me later. Duh! Why haven't we done this sooner?

I set up a grocery store for my little girl. I got off my tooshy and went into our playroom and grabbed all her pretend food in her kitchen. I scooched the preschool chairs around the room and placed different food groups in each chair.

Then I added snack, boxed, and canned food in the center on the preschool table. We used baby strollers and small baskets for charts and holding groceries.

I left her oven and sink cleared so it could be used as a "check out" with an old brown paper bag. I was the 'checker' {beeping sound included ;O)}

This is very similar to how most grocery stores are set up: real food and a check out around the outer walls and junk/processed foods in the center aisles.

Maggie drove her groceries home and put them away in her {now} kitchen. This game cleans up itself ;o)

This was a great chance to teach opportunity and tons of fun!

Lessons learned:

  1. How to make a shopping cart so we could move on to learning to grocery shop
  2. You don't have to buy Everything at the store.
  3. All about Food Groups! This was the funnest and we are still working more with this one.

Now Maggie comes into the room and tells me, "I need to go to the grocery store but it's not open yet." {hint hint} Love It!

I'm trying to pretend {or at least participate} a little more with my kids everyday. What's your favorite pretend play to do with your children?

4th of July Party Food Ideas

My oldest little girl was born on June 29th but our summers are crazy full with camps and family living out-of-town so we have made it a tradition to have a family birthday party on the weekend of the 4th of July. Everyone is off work and can travel! I told myself four years ago I never wanted to make her birthday 4th of July themed…yeah. We all know how that one’s gonna end ;o)

I'm sharing the party foods over at the Homemaker's Challenge today.
