Many of you mom's out there with littles under 5 may know the blessings and woes of the WIC program.
Now that you have the food home, what do you do with it? Today I want to share a breakfast meal my kids love and only takes 1-3 ingredients that WIC doesn't provide but that you likely have in your pantry. Check them out over at the Homemaker's Challenge!
I really think the WIC programme needs a serious overhaul as people have become to dependent on it. And expect that it will supply ALL the needs of their baby, when it is supposed to be a supplemental programme. There is no reason for children to be on WIC for 5 years, when many WIC children qualify for Headstart and hence free meals. Age 3 should be the cutoff for WIC. Give out formula for babies or food for nursing mothers, but there is no need for WIC to be supplying breast pumps, nursing pads and nursing bras. There should also be a child cap and a lifetime limit on when one can recieve WIC like there is welfare.
Stephanie,
Thank you for your opinion on the WIC program. I agree with a lot of what you had to say.
This particular post was just to help those on WIC find better ways to use the supplemental food provided. The basic items they provide are a lifesaver for many families but they may go to waist if families don’t get creative with how to use them. I hope this post gave a fun new way to prepare a healthy breakfast option 😀
Thanks for stopping by!
There’s always a negative Nancy in the group… Some ppl actually need the help.
Um as a single mother I wouldn’t be able to leave my baby and give her the best start I can by breastfeeding her without the wic program providing breast pumps. Therefore I couldn’t attend my college classes or work so how do you expect me to better myself to provide for her if I can’t afford a breast pump without wic?
