#mommied Monday: Walk the Plank

In honor of Mother's Day coming up, I'm going to be sharing stories {possibly weekly} that makes ya wanna say, "BOOM! You just got Mommied!" because it is a super power ;) Often we feel like we just got owned by our children in the small battles so we need some encouragement when we don't lose!

#mommied Monday Walk the Plank

We had been stuck inside for days due to multiple "winter storms" in our area. I mean, the kids had bundled, gone outside to get wet and fridged only to return for homemade hot cooco. So when we had finished out school work they were going crazy indoors. I needed to make lunch sooooo, I taught them how to "walk the plank". Starting from our deck, using scrap wood from our many projects, they were to lay them on the ground, return for another board, walk the plant, add it to the end of the line, and then repeat. No One was to Touch the "frozen water" on the way to the "pirate ship" because alligators would eat them. All three kids were to work together to make it from one place to the next. After they made it to the "pirate ship" aka playground, they had to work their way to their "house" aka shop building where they would stack the boards in a pile there they are stored. Winning! They did this for at least 30 minutes and thought it was hilariously fun. #mommied

#mommied Monday Dinner

I need my 6-year-old daughter to finish her dinner and she can be slightly picky at times. I sized up what she had left of the tiny portions I had given her then challenged my competitive child. "I bet it will take you 10 bits to finish all that. You might be here all night." She could stand the thought of sitting there longer than everyone else and knew with appropriate size bites there was no way it would take 10 bites. She ate up what was left in like 4 bites and “beat” me. #mommied

#mommied Monday recruiting superheros

I needed my 4-year-old son to help clean up some toys before bed but he was very into playing with his brand new superhero toys he’d gotten for Christmas. I went to him and told him I had a very important mission for him and his hero friends. Looking at me excited he ask, Yeah?! What? I walked him to the closet, knelt down and secretly showed him the pile of card games and said they needed to be rescued and placed in the giant tub for safety. I ask if he was brave enough to go into the dark closet and strong enough to pick them all up. He responded with a hardy YES and went right to work. #mommied

BOOM! #mommied leftover lunch

The play/school room was a disaster and it was time for lunch. I walked in and announced the pre-lunch "game". I assigned each child a “center” and who ever won got to be the first one to pick which leftover they wanted to eat for lunch. The ‘babies’, ‘dress-up’, and ‘kitchen’ were cleaned up super-fast AND the goofs thought leftovers were a reward. #mommied

My 3-year-old daughter was supposed to be napping in her room upstairs but kept talking loudly. I went out to her room multiple times and every time she told me she was playing. She finally confessed to playing with her imaginary friends. I told her they weren’t allowed to play during nap time. When it continued, I went in I grounded her from the imaginary friends. I stuck out my hand and told her she was not allowed to play with them during nap and ask her to hand them to me. She looked at me funny then slowly placed one handful of nothing into my hand. I ask her how many she had to which she giggled and said 3 and then she placed two more in my hands. I told her she could have them back after nap; they’d be in the hall waiting. She went to sleep smiling and never played with them again during nap. #mommied
