THIS is an Intervention

Kids meals? We never do kids meals. But sitting at a Taco joint with friends whom I had no idea would forever be in my heart we splurged. These little kids-meal-toys are a reminder of how God has funny ways of moving us through seasons of blessings.

Don't get me wrong, in every season we are blessed but the form in which they come is ever changing. That night, a journey of blessing would start from that parking lot; one that can never be repaid.

THIS is an Intervention

On a wintry night weeks earlier, our dear friends were approaching God on our behalf. At the time, we were only weeks away from launching and having our first ever service at the valley...and we still lived an hour and a half away. They plead for God's intervention through tears of compassion knowing God has something crazy in store. And God Answered!

Minutes later, our intercessors were approached by another family who knew God was asking them to step in but didn't quite understand how they could help. A few days later, those pieces of God's master plan were exposed to us in glorious fashion.

As we finished up tacos and my children were shocked by the "spiciness" of fruit-punch from the fountain, we were unprepared for the amazing tool we was going to use in our lives for this season. We walked into the parking lot and met a family that would bless us without even knowing us as we proceeded in a caravan through the woods, down Hidden Valley Dr to be offered shelter after a season of drought.

Thus began our season of the borrowed home in the Hidden Valley. A home that fit our family's needs perfectly was placed before us and ask "will this work?" as if there would be any question in our minds. God prepared this, there's no turning down such a blessing out of pride because there's no way we could ever repay such an offering.

In March of 2013, humbly and beyond excited, our world turned the page on a new chapter and in less than a week's time, we moved our essentials into a borrowed home and lived there 4 months. That season was filled with moments that still bring tears to my eyes as God lavished His love upon us through the love of others, family bonding, and rest. Much needed Rest. Rest we didn't know we needed in a time of fast pace preparation.

I'll never be able to express how thankful I am to both of those families for being willing to be used by God in such a mighty way during a season we so desperately needed them but in short

Thank you for the natural oasis that was a perfect classroom to teach us what making memories as a family can look like. The first, adventures, learning, and memories we created during this season will forever be treasured in my overflowing heart.

Valentine’s Day in a Minister’s Home

The hard part about being the wife of a minster is his unpredictable work schedule and the awesome part about being the wife of a minister is his  flexible work schedule!

Valentine's Day in a Minister's Home

Thanks to an unpredictable work schedule, we have rarely gone out on Valentine’s Day. Some years there is a Valentine’s Day banquet, other years your chaperoning the junior high dance. And thanks to a flexible work schedule, we always have lots of opportunity to go out some random night instead.

Since Vday was on a Friday this year, we hosted a fun kid's valentine's day party at our house to their parents could go have a date night! Hope over to A Common Bond and see how we prepared to manage the chaos and enjoy the company.

Count Your Rainbows

Last night was a sleepless night in our house.

Guess Which of These Kids Slept All Night

Around 10pm we woke up Ellie {8 weeks} and changed, fed, and put her to bed for we headed off to bed ourselves. While getting meds for the sick hubs and it started. Izzie. Screaming from her bedroom. I hurried in there to hopefully figure out what was wrong before she woke everyone else.

What caused the panicked scream? Her knee hurt... Through all the crying and whining I think what happened was when she rolled over in her bed {apparently violently} she hit her knees on the wall... Yeah, that requires blood curdling screams.

After a long road of

  • snuggles
  • talking
  • multiple trips back and forth from my room
  • giving permission for the now wide-awake Mags to snuggle with Izzie
  • a drink of water
  • "medicine" {icey hot} on her knees

I just new we were back on track for a good night's sleep.

I made it back to my bed just in time for Izzie to start whaling as she marched into my room to tell Matt of her ailment. He sent her back to bed and gave Mags permission to sleep in the guest room since the single bed of snuggles wasn't working.

A few hours later when Ellie woke up again to eat, Matt made a trip to calm the girls.

A few hours after that Ellie woke Again to eat and the poor girls snot-filled nose wouldn't let her go right back to sleep. Matt was taking a turn soothing her after the evil snot-sucker episode when I hear, "Girls! Go back to bed." I look at the end of the bed to see two silent sisters standing next to one another and staring at their daddy.

I have not idea how little sleep they really got. Craziness.

Somehow The Brother slept through the entire night, wondering in our room {early for him} at 6:45ish. The girls followed suit shortly.

This was a recipe for a disastrous day! I decided to try to get out in front of it before things went south fast. After breakfast and a shower I told the kids to get dressed fast. {They LOVE going} Today was Jamin's Nanna day so he was pumped to go hang out with his grandparents so while the girls finished dressing I fed Ellie {again} and loaded them up. The sick hubs stayed with Ellie.

Where were we going that was so excited you ask? Target. lol I told ya. They just like going. I had been thinking about getting the kids a play broom {kid-sized} so they could do their sweeping chore easier so we headed out in search of a broom!

Target:

  1. located meds for hubs
  2. scored the last play broom in the whole store
  3. found a cute clearance pillow case {Thoughtful Thursday post coming soon}

Our round trip was less than an hour and half and that's 20 minutes one way into town. 😀

One the way home we turned off the colors songs 8[ and rocked out to some Air1 for some mommy sanity. Izzie heard a new song and announced it was her favorite. {lub her} As she tried to sing the catchy yet slightly cheese song in the back seat it was clear that we were "counting our rainbows" by enjoying one another today after a long dark sleepless night.

Thanks Air1 for broadcasting truth
for my babies to learn and love!

Homemade Pretend Makeup {Thoughtful Thursday}

Thoughtful Thursdays on as Jules is going

Valentine's Day is coming and I love giving my littles gifts but don't want to spend a lot of money. A small, inexpensive, yet cute gift for little girls this year is homemade pretend makeup. This is also a cute gift for birthdays and there's no threat of messes that parents wouldn't be happy about.

Homemade Pretend MakeupWhat you'll need:

  • used makeup container(s)
  • fingernail polish

How to:

  1. clean out any remnants of the make over {I suggest a dry Q-tip}
  2. fill with your choice of fingernail polish {I chose neutral/actual make-up colors but fun colors would be cool especially for eye-shadows}
  3. let sit flat to dry at least 24 hours to harden completely
  4. add a pretend applicator- the original makeup brush cleaned out, new makeup sponge, or Q-tip
  5. gift it to your little princess and watch the fun begin
