Caution, Wet Floor

I've trained myself to say "No one is perfect. Everyone will disappoint you except Christ." but I often don't live this out.

8183706133_750a3fbdc0_h

I mean, I know that's true. I know having high expectations of people will always disappoint me but I don't know how to LIVE in that. I've always been told, "don't get your hopes up" and often I live in my negative little world telling myself the hopeful thing I wish to happen...won't. I do the same thing with people.

I jump all in; trying to love without restraint yet have no expectations. I look past the 'wet floor' signs. I run straight into the soaking wet floors of other people's lives. I get hurt. It sucks. But the awkward aftermath seems much worse. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the initial hurt but its the living life after the fall that is something I just don't know how to do.

I don't know how to live cautious but not scared. I don't know how to use wisdom and not over-analogize. How do I tip toe through with care, not knowing if its flooded or if it dry after being slightly damp and no one took the sign down hours {or years} before? Will I end up in the middle of a danger zone, catastrophized by unbearable disaster or just slip and bump my toosh?

I have high hopes for their life. I see potential. I know God could do unspeakable things through them.

Then. They just don't get it. They sin. They miss the bigger picture. They don't see what you saw for them. Or what I fantasized of them.

That's fine and well but I am terrible at living and loving through that. Relationships get weird. I get weird. I see them in an entirely new light. A tainted one. I still want to see them like Christ would- the complete product of His handy work.

I do this over and over again. Different seasons of life. Different kinds of relationships. Different hurts.

At the valley today we talked about the passover. I've heard Matt speak about the passover many times and even down to the logistical set up that was likely the seating arrangement but today I saw it differently. Something clicked. Well, less clicked more...ouched.

During the passover, these men would be reclining at a horseshoe shaped table. They would lean onto their left arm and eat with their right hand. There was even ritual seating arrangements for the guest. The youngest was probably sitting at the front of the table with no one reclining into him. Behind him would be the host. Then the person the host would lean back into for conversation would be considered the "person of honor".

You can send your questions about the details of this to Matt {at} the valley church {dot} org but that means John would have been 1st at the table, laying back into Jesus, who was laying back into Judas. Judas was in the seat of HONOR! This. Is. Convicting.

Jesus knew Judas was gonna be a tool and a sell out. He placed him in the seat of honor. Jesus knew! Jesus still honored Judas. He didn't just play nice, have polite chit chat, or smile and nod when they happened to pass one another. Jesus HONORS him. If anyone had an excuse to be a turd toward someone it would be JESUS. If any relationship would be understandably awkward, it would be this one! Jesus treats him no differently.

I'm baffled.

Where do I get off acting like I have any right to be weird toward people when they didn't do/act/say/smell the way I thought they ought.

Jesus, give me your eyes. Eyes to see your children how you see them. The potential. The real. The hurts. The strengths. Give me your love.

I’m going to Allume!!!

Just a few short months ago, my husband had to skip out early on our Thanksgiving evening up on Fayetteville to head back to prison.

He stayed as late as he could, gave big hugs goodbye and made the 4+ hour trek back down to White Hall. He'd been up for entirely too long. You know no one sleeps when you're overnighting out of town. He also had to be up and in prison by 5:30 a.m. So what does any responsible loving husband do? He set an alarm and got up at midnight to purchase a Black Friday gift for me online. Talk about crazy love. What did he buy and surprise me with on Christmas morning?

Allume conference tickets! Black Friday, Allume opened ticket sales on the 2013 October conference. They only had 10 tickets available at the incredibly low price of $204.97.

Assist Those Affected in OK

You can help at least one family affected by the Oklahoma Tornadoes!

I know many of you are looking for a way to help those affected by the tornadoes today.

I just got news of the Kerr family who will be returning home on July 1st to Nothing. Nothing but rubble. Their house was demolished while they were away on a long-awaited cruise. They have nothing but what they had with them.

946839_4521970662442_957201614_n

They desperately need your help!

A family member of theirs {whom I know personally} has offered to collect items for them, {the address is available on the wish list} so, I have created an amazon wish list to attempt to send aid their way.

These are just examples of things I'm sure they will need. Feel free to send other items {or brands} as well. The family consists of a husband, wife, and teenage daughter. I will let you know as soon as I get clothing sizes!!!!

I’m an Old Fogey…apparently.

Have I ever told you I'm an old fogey? Well, I am...apparently.

banana phone

Never thought I would be. I enjoy learning new things; or at least I used to. Then I had kids. Learn THEM seems to be taking up all the space in my brain. Everything else needs to stay simple {and unchanging} so I don't loose my mind.

Phones. Ugg. Phones. Why do they keep changing? I rather make a quick call on my banana phone with extra long cord like the good 'ole days. My hubs loves technology and enjoys getting the next newest {to us} phone. He jumped on the iPhone wagon shortly after the craze began. He's been hooked ever since. Not me! I was bound and determined to keep my flip phone Razor. That's right. I felt fancy enough with that bad boy!

Several of my friends began to tease me. They were no long making my phone and parts where becoming harder and harder to come by. A sweet couple we went to church with noticed how "behind the times" my phone and I were. They had just upgraded to the NEWEST iPhone and passed down one of the 3 'old' ones they had at the house. SUPER SWEET! but I didn't really care to switch. Eventually I caved and after a absent minded moment on a youth trip where I left one of the doors unlock on the church van, the phone, along with my nice camera {that you Know I used daily}, my new laptop, and my purse were stolen, never to be seen again.

I was so hip by this point that my phone could be bought for a $1 when you used your free upgrade. I guess we'll try this again I thought. A bought a year later, I cracked that joker on a tile floor...yeah, no cover. I didn't like that it didn't fit in my pocket. :/

Yet another friend {along with my hubs} couldn't stand the thought of me using a phone with a cracked screen. That family then passed down an older model of the iPhone. No, this is not a joke. Through humility God often blesses! But the phone wouldn't hold all the info I had on the cracked-screen phone...so I avoided switching like a plague.

Matt, being the gather-hunter in the family, got on Craig's List and located another iPhone. I think there may be more of these than humans lying around the US by now... Anyways, he picked it up from a sweet older lady in a parking lot. Although I still fight against the synced-calendars and all the other cool features, I am amazed at how cheap you can find them. They really are a great tool. If you're NOT an old fogy like me then maybe you could try out this sponsored link {more here} to see if you too can find a cheap phone. Have fun!

REDEEMED {Thoughtful Thursday} early

Thoughtful Thursday a weekly series on asJulesisgoing.com

I know this is early AND this isn't the best picture but I wanted to share how I made this sign in case you wanted to do it...these DaySpring letters are on sale & it ends TODAY!!!! I shared last week about why I chose the word REDEEMED, for the entry way in the valley. {better pics to come}

redeemed word art | how-to on asJulesisgoing.com

  1. Redeemed leftover materials:
    • Wood knocked down from original walls in the building
    • Leftover paint from the green walls
    • Leftover paint from the bathroom cabinets {that were 'revived'}
  2. My buddy John cut the 2x4x1 boards for me
    • ~8 foot long {top & bottom pieces}
    • 2 foot tall {side pieces}
  3. Paint frame pieces with the black {flat CHEAP paint}
    • one coat is fine
    • let dry and then scruff up edges as well as the entire length of the board with sandpaper or a sand sponge {you can use a hand sander if you're intense like that}
  4. Measure and paint the green rectangle {matte inside the frame}
  5. Hang Frame
    • Start with the top piece
      • Center and hang with screws in at least one stud
    • Hang side pieces loosely
    • Hang bottom piece
      • Then match up sides before screwing in tightly
  6. Measure and hang lettering
    • We used push pins to mark & double check our measurements {spacing is totally up to the individual}
    • We ended up putting a screw {or 2 for the M}
    • The holes on the back are large enough to hang with a small nail or even a push pin
    • I think this could look cute just sitting on the bottom ledge of the frame and or staggering letters

There it is. Just wanted to you know how easy this project was and ALL for less than $20 {including shipping of the letters}!!! That's less than $2.5o a letter and I don't think you could buy simple wooden letters for that and I'm pretty sure I couldn't have painted them as cute and even. Get you're HERE. Last day to use this coupon code! Great Deal!!! {and surprisingly super fast shipment arrival!}

COUPON CODE: WATF30 = $14

{expire Tuesday, April 9that midnight CST}

#winning Thanks WeareTHATfamily #weareredeemed
