#boymom NOT for the Faint of Heart {part 1}

Caution: NOT for the faint of heart

The kids slept 'til nearly 8:30!!! We'd been out late the night before at the valley for a meeting. I was excited they slept in a bit. Well-rested and ready to get moving, Izzie asks me, "Where are we going today?" I laughed because this has become a consistent question for our poor traveling babies. "No where" I was thrilled to announce.

Matt headed out the door to a monthly meeting about 30 minutes out of town. Maggie was finishing her breakfast while Izzie found a spot at the table to color in her newest coloring books. Jamin thought that sounded like a good idea so he parked it on the dinning table bench up against the wall. Maggie quickly finish so she would join them. I traveled the short distance back and forth from the table to kitchen, cleaning up.

Jamin suddenly stood up and yelled, "TA DA!!!!" I turned to see his beautiful scribbled black frog art work. "Way to go Jamin" we all cheered in unison. I walked over and checked out the other side he was showing me. "Wow, a Brown Doggy." Proudly he shoot his head with lips pooched out. He squatted as I suggested new colors for the dog's face and the flowers, grass, and sky surrounding the dog. Jamin was giggling as he scribbled each new section.

Jamin's Brown Doggy

After getting him rolling again, he went to sit on his toosh as I walked away to finish clean up in the kitchen. Suddenly I heard a squeak across the tile floor and a loud couple thuds...then screaming. Crap, I thought. He's fallen Again. Boys. He hadn't fallen off the back of the bench because I had it up against the wall but rather it had kicked under the table and Jamin had fallen in the small gap created between the bench and the wall. I ran to scoop him up so I could check for the inevitable bump only to find blood splatter next to him.

My insides tried to shoot straight up my throat and out my mouth. I snatched him up. He was grabbing the back of his head and blood was already dripped onto the shoulder of his adorable capped superman sweatshirt. Scary redness started down his hand. Trying not to scream in an attempt to get the knot in my heart out, I may or may not have whispered frantically "Shh Shh, you're OKaaay." which quickly leaked out through my gritted teeth, "Shit Shit Shit, uuuuuhhmmmm, you're...okay..." as my heart thumped with every step toward the sink where I place Jamin's toosh on the counter. He plopped his head on my shoulder and sobbed. The girls staaaared at us from the table just feet away.

I grabbed a nearby washcloth and started quickly wiping blood off his hands and mine. When I removed his hand from his head, blood squirted. Eeeek! Yes Squirted across my arm. {catch your breath with me here...Now, I am usually the blood, Not vomit, parent but I almost passed out right there!} Sucking in gulps of air, I jerked back tears and yelps, attempting to not freak everyone out further.

With the faucet still revving out the water for clean up, I slung open the towel drawer right beneath Jamin's feet and grabbed the darkest towel I saw. When I tried to turn him around to cover the wound and put pressure on it, I found nothing but red hair. His pour toe-head was covered. I couldn't even identify where the injury was. I just grabbed his entire head with the towel slamming it into my chest. I turned to the girls...still staring with utter confusion. "Maggie. Bring me my phone now!" For what seemed like minutes I gazed off in shock, running through every name I knew..."WHO lives near us? Who could drop what they're doing and Help me? WHO Isn't Working?!?!" I. Had. Nothing!

Mags tip-toed toward us timidly. As I rushed her she said, "but...I don't want all Jamin's blood to get on me..." Finally getting the phone, I tapped at it one-handed, putting in the lock code, and then trying to find Matt {my hubs'} contact info. Still squeezing J's head against me, him screaming, I put the phone on speaker and used both hands for pressure.

I never heard it ringing in what felt like chaos but suddenly I heard Matt questioning, "HELLO?" I composed myself and said, "So, umm. I think I may need you to come home!" Catching my breathe again and trying not to panic, I said quickly as to not cry, "Jamin fell and busted his head open. He's bleeding. Badly." We quickly chatted back and forth only to find out he was at least 40 miles away and couldn't be the immediate hands and sanity I needed. He had me locate the wound. Hardest job ever. I knew I needed to know where the blood was coming from and how bad it was to assess what kind of attention he needed. I also knew if I found it...I might pass out. "Don't Cry! Don't Cry! Don't Cry"

There it was. A gash about an inch and a half long...depth, unsure due to the puddles still coming out of it.

I hung up and called my nurse friend to find out what I needed to do. "Hey girl...how are youuuu? Umm, Jamin cut his head open and probably needs stitches. {insert awkward nervous giggle} Can I bring him to your clinic or do I need to head straight to the ER?" I glanced over to the table where my girls sat in their night gowns. They had tried to go back to coloring but were still peaking over their shoulders looking for security; Maggie taking in every aspect of each phone conversations. "Bring him here. I'm here today and we do that all the time." is all I heard from my friend in my foggy estate.

Movie Day Saturdays!

If you've been here long you know my family doesn't have TV.

laundry basket movie watching

We're not avoiding this form of entertainment we just chose not make it a large part of our budget as well as limit and guard what comes across our television. We rent red boxes after checking wired in for reviews and of course looking in our emails or online for new coupon codes. lol

The kids get to watch a movie {from our kids' DVD collection} and Saturdays are "MOVIE DAY" at our house. Yep, we let them choose a constant flow of movies if they'd like on Saturdays. We use this as a good way to rest and make this our Sabbath of sorts.

Since we use our DVD players almost daily, they kinda get tired...I guess. The awesome portable DVD players our parents got the kids a couple years ago have worn out the power source. The little piece that goes into the cigarette lighter has become twisted and pulled loose. After a couple trips in the car without it, they don't even ask anymore.

the laptop hooked up to play the movie

But when the DVD player in our house went out a few days ago, its a entirely different story. They ask EVERY AFTERNOON if the DVD player is still dead? Thanks to my genius husband, we can now hook up his laptop {when he doesn't need it for work} to the TV with a nifty little cord. It works for us.

We do plan on replacing the DVD player and could try this out {sponsored link} but more than likely we'll end up getting a similar cheap Wally World special.

What about you? Do you do media and if so, what do you have? Cable, Hule, Redbox, DVD collection, Satellite, something else? How do you monitor?

I’m an Old Fogey…apparently.

Have I ever told you I'm an old fogey? Well, I am...apparently.

banana phone

Never thought I would be. I enjoy learning new things; or at least I used to. Then I had kids. Learn THEM seems to be taking up all the space in my brain. Everything else needs to stay simple {and unchanging} so I don't loose my mind.

Phones. Ugg. Phones. Why do they keep changing? I rather make a quick call on my banana phone with extra long cord like the good 'ole days. My hubs loves technology and enjoys getting the next newest {to us} phone. He jumped on the iPhone wagon shortly after the craze began. He's been hooked ever since. Not me! I was bound and determined to keep my flip phone Razor. That's right. I felt fancy enough with that bad boy!

Several of my friends began to tease me. They were no long making my phone and parts where becoming harder and harder to come by. A sweet couple we went to church with noticed how "behind the times" my phone and I were. They had just upgraded to the NEWEST iPhone and passed down one of the 3 'old' ones they had at the house. SUPER SWEET! but I didn't really care to switch. Eventually I caved and after a absent minded moment on a youth trip where I left one of the doors unlock on the church van, the phone, along with my nice camera {that you Know I used daily}, my new laptop, and my purse were stolen, never to be seen again.

I was so hip by this point that my phone could be bought for a $1 when you used your free upgrade. I guess we'll try this again I thought. A bought a year later, I cracked that joker on a tile floor...yeah, no cover. I didn't like that it didn't fit in my pocket. :/

Yet another friend {along with my hubs} couldn't stand the thought of me using a phone with a cracked screen. That family then passed down an older model of the iPhone. No, this is not a joke. Through humility God often blesses! But the phone wouldn't hold all the info I had on the cracked-screen phone...so I avoided switching like a plague.

Matt, being the gather-hunter in the family, got on Craig's List and located another iPhone. I think there may be more of these than humans lying around the US by now... Anyways, he picked it up from a sweet older lady in a parking lot. Although I still fight against the synced-calendars and all the other cool features, I am amazed at how cheap you can find them. They really are a great tool. If you're NOT an old fogy like me then maybe you could try out this sponsored link {more here} to see if you too can find a cheap phone. Have fun!

Ranchy Chicken and Potatoes {Thoughtful Thursday}

Thoughtful Thursday a weekly series on asJulesisgoing.com

Travel. Meeting. Travel. Service. Travel. Clean. I have been so tired once we got home that I didn't want to cook anything...not to mention we were missing pieces to make any of our "regular" go-to meals. I saw THIS post today that inspired the following recipe. It was addapted because of 3 reasons:

  1. I thought about it too late and didn't have 4-6 hours to cook dinner in a cockpot.
  2. I had no idea what potatoes were au gratin potatoes were...googled it. lol
  3. I only had these items in stock 😉

So, after chunking all this into the oven, going for a quick "field trip" to watch the neighbor's cows, I returned to a yummy smell in my house! Score!!! Here's the oober complicated creation:

Ranchy Chicken and Potatoes SIMPLE Recipe | asJulesisgoing.com 3 ingrediante + 1 hour= easy meal for a busy mom! Can also be convereted into a crockpot meal

Ranchy Chicken and Potatoes

3 frozen skinless boneless chicken breast
1 small bottle of ranch {I used low fast}
3 large potatoes {cubed}

Oven- 350'
Put Chicken on the bottom of a casserole dish, add potatoes, cover in ranch. I also filled the bottle 1/2 full of water to get the remaining ranch out and poured that in as well.
Baked for about an hour. You may stir & put it back in based on how soft you want the potatoes.

REDEEMED {Thoughtful Thursday} early

Thoughtful Thursday a weekly series on asJulesisgoing.com

I know this is early AND this isn't the best picture but I wanted to share how I made this sign in case you wanted to do it...these DaySpring letters are on sale & it ends TODAY!!!! I shared last week about why I chose the word REDEEMED, for the entry way in the valley. {better pics to come}

redeemed word art | how-to on asJulesisgoing.com

  1. Redeemed leftover materials:
    • Wood knocked down from original walls in the building
    • Leftover paint from the green walls
    • Leftover paint from the bathroom cabinets {that were 'revived'}
  2. My buddy John cut the 2x4x1 boards for me
    • ~8 foot long {top & bottom pieces}
    • 2 foot tall {side pieces}
  3. Paint frame pieces with the black {flat CHEAP paint}
    • one coat is fine
    • let dry and then scruff up edges as well as the entire length of the board with sandpaper or a sand sponge {you can use a hand sander if you're intense like that}
  4. Measure and paint the green rectangle {matte inside the frame}
  5. Hang Frame
    • Start with the top piece
      • Center and hang with screws in at least one stud
    • Hang side pieces loosely
    • Hang bottom piece
      • Then match up sides before screwing in tightly
  6. Measure and hang lettering
    • We used push pins to mark & double check our measurements {spacing is totally up to the individual}
    • We ended up putting a screw {or 2 for the M}
    • The holes on the back are large enough to hang with a small nail or even a push pin
    • I think this could look cute just sitting on the bottom ledge of the frame and or staggering letters

There it is. Just wanted to you know how easy this project was and ALL for less than $20 {including shipping of the letters}!!! That's less than $2.5o a letter and I don't think you could buy simple wooden letters for that and I'm pretty sure I couldn't have painted them as cute and even. Get you're HERE. Last day to use this coupon code! Great Deal!!! {and surprisingly super fast shipment arrival!}

COUPON CODE: WATF30 = $14
